Algorand Name Service v1.0 — Mainnet launch
The Algorand Name Service (ANS) launched on the Algorand mainnet on Feb 25, 2022. Head over to algonameservice.com to grab a .algo name for your wallet address. You can also link social media handles and avatars to your .algo name and start building your .algo profile.
How to
The ANS website supports interaction through MyAlgo Wallet and AlgoSigner v1.6 chrome extension. The ANS home page contains a search bar for checking the availability of a .algo name. On the top-right menu, there’s a names item that expands to a drop-down menu with links to the dashboard, name registration, and name lookup. Features
The Algorand Name Service v1.0 registry launched on mainnet supports the following set of features:
- .algo domain name registration and renewal
- linking social media profiles and avatars to .algo names
- Reverse lookup
- Transfer ownership of names
Names on ANS are priced according to their length as follows:
- 5 ALGO/yr for 5 or more characters name
- 50 ALGO/yr for 4 characters name
- 150 ALGO/yr for 3 characters name
Users can purchase a name for as short as one year or as long as 100 yrs at once. Names can be renewed or transferred at any point with no minimum period limitations.
Community-driven name service
All payments made for registering names and using other services are deposited into a treasury (escrow) account that will be governed by a soon-to-be-launched ANS DAO.
The ANS team envisions the ANS DAO to allocate a majority of the treasury funds towards supporting upcoming community projects and activities.

Rand Gallery and other app integrations
After the successful launch of ANS on the mainnet, the ANS development team is now focusing on libraries and SDKs for integration. The ANS REST API is now available for public testing. JavaScript and Python SDKs will be rolled out in the next few days. Rand Gallery, the popular NFT gallery and marketplace on Algorand, is the first app to integrate ANS and we are working with a few other projects to fast-track integrations. Next steps
Following successful iteration of integration libraries, the dev team plans to support .algo subdomains such as personal.johndoe.algo and business.johndoe.algo to enable representing multiple personal wallet addresses with the same .algo domain name. Subsequently, the ANS Name Marketplace will be designed and prototyped later this month (March 2022).
